A reader of this website asked me a question one day about whether I thought it was a good idea to make your own glue. Up until that point I had never even thought about it. Now, as you can see in the video, I’ve started making my own glue – just to see if I could!

Rice paste glue is good for binding end papers to hardcover cases or gluing cover wraps onto bookboards to create a hardcover case. This glue is not waterproof. If you get it wet again, the glue will lose strength.

Products Used In Tutorial:

• Sushi Rice
• Magic Bullet Blender
• Sieve
• Rice Flour

Basic Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup of Sushi Rice
• 3/4 cup of Water

Directions:

Place the rice and water in a pot and turn the stove one high. When the mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat and cover the pot. Let the rice simmer for 20 minutes and then remove from heat. Use a fork to mash the rice into a paste. If the mixture is too thick, add a little water. If the mixture gets too runny, put it back over heat and cook out the excess moisture. When the mixture achieves the consistency of batter, remove from heat and allow it to cool. Spoon the mixture into a sieve and force it through the mesh with a wooden spoon into a bowl. Transfer into a container and store in the refrigerator until needed. It will keep for about one week.
